Kim & David | Weekday Wedding At Acre

7/30/2018

David and Kim met online and their first date was at the dog park.  They both have and love dogs. They moved in together after 2 months of dating and were engaged only 1 year later. David proposed on the beach at Seabrook, Washington on a long weekend getaway for his birthday. This happy couple chose to have their wedding at Acre restaurant in San Jose del Cabo. Here’s what Kim had to say about their special day:

Advantages Of A Weekday Wedding

We choose a Tuesday for so many reasons. Flights are inexpensive on Saturday’s and Wednesdays from our area. I wanted to host a snorkel trip but needed a day of rest before the wedding. David proposed on 4/14/2018 (which is also his birthday), so he thought it would be an easy date to remember. A weekday wedding at Acre can also help with vendor availability and encourages guests to make a vacation out of a destination wedding.

Venue | Wedding At Acre

I would describe Acre as Palm Springs meets Baja. We love the food they serve with all the unique flavors, the specialty cocktails, the modern décor and the animals they rescue! I think when you choose a venue/style etc., it’s important to make sure it fits who you both are. Because of this, we were very comfortable to have our wedding at Acre.

Design

I sent Lynette from Amy Abbott Events a vision board and she did the rest! I wanted it to match our personality along with the venue. A mix of modern romantic influences.

We choose our modern romantic theme based on who we are as a couple and didn’t try to fit into any specific trend that was happening, although I’m sure we did in some ways naturally. We started off with bright colors, but then soon realized that just wasn’t us. We went with neutral tones, accents of gold and wood and then lots of black and blue.  I wanted it to cohesively go with the venue and accent the beautiful blue tile. Plus, blue is our favorite color.

It’s okay to not know exactly what you want and allow others (vendors) who are experts take control. They know what works, what doesn’t and what’s not important. Trust who you’ve decided to partner with. We were able to trust our Event Designer, Lynette Dow from the beginning and our experience was so easy with very little stress.

Budget Allocation

Our biggest splurge was being able to create additional events throughout the week for our guests. Something as simple as providing transportation for all guests to events then hosting a private snorkel trip with catered lunch really made an impact and it was such a great time as well! It allowed our guests to become acquainted with one another before the big day.

We chose not to do welcome bags but instead provided an itinerary. Those additions are so fun for guests, but the costs really add up. We also didn’t have guests reply by mail but rather on our website. We did this to save costs, but it also helped us gather everyone’s emails, so we could email everyone 1 week prior with additional details.

Personal Touches For An Unforgettable Wedding Day

A Memory Table for family members who are no longer with us, including David’s mother, was very important to us during our wedding at Acre.

My wedding band has diamonds from David’s mom’s ring that she wore every day. The officiant spoke about these special diamonds and how she will always be with me, supporting me and loving me – just as she would if she was still with us.

David loves to celebrate with a cigar so we had a live cigar rolling station during cocktail and had monogrammed boxes of matches made.

David’s Brother-in-law, Ben performed the ceremony.  When we said our vows David couldn’t look at me and was looking at Ben so he wouldn’t cry… but it didn’t work. There were lots of happy tears.

We took a quiet moment to hang out and get pictures with Burrito the baby burro. We laughed so hard and this really made us relax and enjoy the moment.
