Kelly & Elie celebrated their nuptials with a rustic chic wedding at Flora Farms, San Jose del Cabo. This unique location set the scene for a truly memorable event. Enjoy reading about the happy couple’s beautiful wedding store beneath.
What made a wedding at Flora Farms so special and unique?
The location! We chose to have our wedding at Flora Farms because it is such a unique venue. When most people imagine a destination wedding they imagine a resort-style wedding which is also beautiful, but the farm provides such an unexpected atmosphere for guests that we both really loved. We also enjoy a rustic antique-style decor which is the style of our loft in Toronto, so this venue was an immediate fit for us.
Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!
I found my dress at the first store we visited: Rosa Clara from Avenue 22 Bridal in Toronto, Ontario. I found it while dress shopping with my mom and sister. Knowing I wanted something light for Cabo, my sister was actually the one who pulled it off a mannequin and demanded I try it! I knew it was perfect for the location and that Elie would immediately love it.
How did you add your personal touch to the wedding?
We each asked our parents for a photograph from their weddings since both of our parents are celebrating 40 years together this year and our parents happened to be married within days of each other. Each of their wedding photos were displayed on an antique looking dresser which served as the escort table and doubled as the dessert table. We also wanted to have some Mexican flare in the mix since we were celebrating in Cabo so we chose colorful maracas to serve as the escort cards for guests and we had a mariachi band during cocktail hour.
And finally, both of our siblings and some of our friends have small children so we wanted to ensure we made the wedding family friendly. Having our wedding at Flora Farms provided a great atmosphere for the kids to run around and play, and we included a “kids head table” especially for them with glow-sticks and personalized lollipops, which they loved.

What was the most memorable part of the day?
The ambiance and energy of the whole night. The Flora Farms location was just so beautiful. With the twinkling overhead lights, lanterns, and votives. Everyone just had so much fun the entire time. The energy never dropped. From being hoisted up on chairs during the horah, to the epic dance party in the barn, where our love of indie folk blended so well with the farm setting. We were overcome with such joy as the night wound down rocking out to “Wagon Wheel” and finally “The Cave.” We were surrounded by everyone that was important to us.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.
We met in 2012. Kelly was an event director for the “City Chase” sporting event (similar to the “Amazing Race”). Elie was an athlete at the Whitehorse, Yukon national championships. After meeting City Chase, Elie made the first move and asked Kelly out the day after the event wrapped up. Shortly after we started dating, Kelly announced that she was leaving for Medical school in the Caribbean. Our long distance relationship began at that point. It was a tough four years of long distance but regardless of the distance, our relationship continued to flourish. When Kelly returned from the Caribbean, Elie proposed on her birthday while at Kelly’s parents house.
